Have You Ever Asked why?
Why? A friend asked me that question a couple of days ago and I honestly couldn’t give a reasonable answer. So, I’ve been thinking really why, what is the real issue? Why! Why! Why!
Why What?, You may ask.
Why have you not started that side business, why have you not taken any step toward your dream, why have you not made the changes you know you need to make to your life.
Of course, all sorts of reasons came to mind; I’m busy working a full-time job, minding the kids, trying to lose weight, volunteering for some cause, taking a much-needed vacation, catching up on the latest series of XYZ, in short just so busy.

The reality is none of my excuses can hold water, they’re just exactly that Excuses!
People just like me, in even more precarious situations, have risen above their limitations, risen to the challenge, pushed through the obstacles so Why Can’t I.
Sometimes, you need to take a moment, just a few minutes to ask WHY.
If the answer you get doesn’t ring true, ask a different question, what if? Allow yourself to dream of all the possibilities and then take ACTION.
Action can come in different shapes and forms but the most important thing is to take one step, JUST one every day.
That single question, I was asked caused me to really think and answering that question, I think for many of us leads to many other questions we need to ask and I have summed them into 4.
- Why are you where you are today?
- How did you get here?
- What do you really want?
- What are you going to do next?
Why are you where you are today
I know we started off with the why question but I have included it again but from a different perspective - your reasoning in making the decisions that got you here.
Did you do that degree in school because you liked it or because it was the best path to a good career. Did you not go to college just to spite someone else, were you too lazy, genuinely wanted to take your life in a different direction or just weren’t cut out for school.
* Why are you in your present job, was it the first and the best you could find at the time. Did you plan to use it as a stepping stone, was it just good for the money.
* Why are you still at your job, do you absolutely love it or are you just surviving at it?
*.Why are you in the business you are in, why have you not started the business you wanted to start.
* Why are you in debt, why are you really wealthy.
It’s in taking the time to ask why that we get a better handle on the other questions.
How did you get here?
I believe we get to where we are based on the decisions and choices we make on a daily basis, so;
-Every time you decide to sleep a little longer rather than think/plan and start your day.
-Every time you decide to read that article, take that course, apply for that job, find out about that business, go to that seminar.
-Every time you choose to give up when things get rough, rather than push through.
-Every time you choose to spend more time watching TV rather than spend quality time thinking, researching or planning.
What do really want?
If there were no limitations, no family or financial constraints. What would you do.
What would motivate you enough to make changes, getting out of debt, owning your own business, being rich enough to ensure your parents don’t have to work again, wanting to provide for others, craving that work/life balance, wanting that brand-new car.
Whatever your motivation, find it and keep it at the forefront of your mind.
Don’t be afraid to visualize it , your dreams can come true.
You can rewrite your story.
Now that you’ve established why you are where you are, how you got there, what you really want……….. What Next.
How do you make your dreams a reality?
First thing to note, No-one said it will be easy but it will be so WORTH IT.
It may take a short time but more likely longer, be in it for the long haul.
Take action, don’t let anyone tell you, it can’t be done, you can’t make it , you don’t have what it takes.
Don’t tell yourself, you can’t do it. You CAN. You CAN. You have it in you to succeed, You were created for greatness.
Find your place and don’t let anyone take it away from you.
I know I haven’t said anything above that most of us haven’t heard before and to be honest, I’m on this journey as well. I want to leave you with some practical steps you can take TODAY to get you going..
I know I haven’t said anything above that most of us haven’t heard before and to be honest, I’m on this journey as well. I want to leave you with some practical steps you can take TODAY to get you going.
a) Make a quality decision to move forward.
Moving forward doesn’t have to be anything major, you can start by taking the time to write the one thing you would like to accomplish in the next few months, in a year, in the next 5 years.
I know you have heard that before so I say, if that’s a lot for you, get a piece of paper, write “I can do this, I can achieve this goal………. I’m awesome”. Stick on your bathroom door, say it loud till you have the motivation to do more.
b) Break your goal into very manageable steps, start small.
Do you want to start a business, find out how, who is the best in the industry, copy and learn.
Never been done before? There is a roadmap in your Spirit.
Want to change careers, find out what you need to do, get a coach, volunteer to gain the practical experience and go for it.
Want to manage your finances better, take the steps, draw out the plan, reduce your expenses, increase your income and start making the changes required.
When you hit a road block, analyze, push through, find another route but please keep going.
Understanding there may be obstacles helps to be better prepared mentally if and when they occur.
There is nothing new under the sun, seek out help from experts in your field, read articles, go to relevant forums/ seminars.
Above all, know that you can the power is in you.
c) Celebrate your wins, no matter how small. They will help you keep going. If one of your struggles is getting up early or staying up late, celebrate the first week you can achieve this two night in a row. It tells you two things
- You actually can do it
- it really will make a difference in the tasks you need to get done (if you actually do the work in that time).
d) Find an accountability partner
It’s easier to travel with friends than to do it alone.
There will be days you just need that push to keep going, there will be days you loose perspective and want to give up, its at that time you need a listening ear, someone who will empathise but also see past your excuses.

e. Stay in your lane: Mind your business
There is a proverb that says you can’t judge a fish by his ability to climb a wall.
You are an original, no one can do you like you can.
Keep the main thing the main thing.
Run your lane, don’t be envious of another man’s success and don’t lose sleep when people want to copy your ideas.
Be confident in your ability to evolve and adapt.
Never give up. You can do it.
Will you do it?
